Türkçe Talk
Show at the shoarma café
By and with Ruth Schultz and Harald Redmer
A phoenix5 Munster production
It’s about Germans and the Dutch – a topical theme that has been around for centuries. How could people forget the numerous football matches, the peanut butter, the vanilla custard, the sauerkraut and the haribo, Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus, Wilders and Sarazin, bikes everywhere. Or – a centuries-old cliché. But how do people from other cultures actually view us? The Turks for example?
In Türkçe Talk, we hear what the Turkish shoarma café owners on both sides of the border have to say. Shoarma cafés can be seen as a sort of microcosm of society. We all go there once in a while. We wanted to find out what the Turks think of the German and Dutch Culture and Way of Life. How do the Turks manage to service in these countries? Do the Turkish citizens have the feeling that they have something to offer apart from Shoarma and Turkish pizza?
Ruth Schultz and Harald Redmer are theatre producers, who want to produce a performance packed with pleasure. Türkçe Talk is a mobile live Film-Lecture-Performance in shoarma cafés on both sides of the Dutch-German border. A presenter will engage the customers/passers by in a discussion. Integration at a high Fast-Food level, a tasty and refreshing look at the cliché-ridden relationship with the neighbours.
