Project
sozialpalast Berlin - Berlijn
Musicians from the Netherlands visit musicians in Berlin on three evenings this autumn. Their meeting place is the small music room of the Sozialpalast, in Berlin’s trendy Prenzlauer Berg. This is where music is played and sung, and where people congregate to chat and drink.
During the performances, the audience sits in the media arts café (MAC) Berlijn in Enschede. Via a video live stream, the music will be projected from Berlin onto a large screen in Enschede. The musicians in Berlin can not see the audience, but they can hear it: the sounds from the hall in Enschede are transmitted back to Berlin.
A German/Dutch arts project with lots of music! Presentation: Desiree Klaeukens and Michiel van Meurs (Berlin). From 21.00, free admission. Where? Mac Berlijn, Stationsplein 1, 7511 JD Enschede opposite Enschede Central Station
Dates:
Saturday 22 October, illute (Berlin) ++ puddle parade/homemade empire (Utrecht)
Ute van illute from Berlin also makes music! With a guitar, piano and glockenspiel. And she accompanies this with items she has composed herself, right from the heart and into yours. Accompanied by Daniella Grimm on violin and vocals. Ellen from “puddle parade” and Bart from “homemade empire” from Utrecht make incredibly fine music and engage in a kind of collaboration: he accompanies her on her pieces and she accompanies him on his. Vocals, guitar, keyboards, loops, minimal and lo-fi.
Saturday 12 November, Blockflöte des Todes (Berlijn) ++ Goslink (Rotterdam)
Matthias Schrei, alias the ‘flute of death’, from Berlin is a male One Leg Band, plays Blok’n Roll and has never voted for the Liberals. Goslink from Rotterdam is Harm Goslink Kuiper. He is a musician, painter, illustrator. His first question about this project was: “Will all my instruments fit in the train to Berlin?!” Guitar, 5-string banjo, mandolin, slide/pedal steel, piano, ukulele and much more …
Saturday26 November, Gisbert zu Knyphausen (Berlin) ++ Chickewally’s Fanfare (Enschede)
Gisbert zu Knyphausen from Berlin is a traditional liedermacher but is also represents the new generation of singer/songwriters. Combining the earnestness of Herman van Veen and the coolness of .. yes, of whom actually? There’s nobody cooler than him. About Chickewally’s Fanfare from Enschede: Like a painting I try to find my own DNA but of course you find music on your way that influences you, or that is similar to what you think is your own DNA. Cocorosie in many ways opened my eyes (but I do not try to be like them) and from there many, many other things…
