Arts Relay Duo 3

De Oszilatorinnen: Schlager music, video clips and techno beats in German-Dutch arts project.
What’s the best thing about the German-Dutch border? The many supermarkets, the wonderful landscapes, the day out? For many people it’s a bit more than that: it’s the hanging fruit.

Hanging fruit between Dutch and German culture are studied via an arts project: De Oszilatorinnen is a project that is both typically German and typically Dutch in which our overhanging national cultures are studied, resulting in a combination of Schlager music and cool techno.

The project will be presented on March 4 in MAC Berlijn, Stationsplein Enschede, at around 16.00, during the 7 days of inspiration project, as part of the simplification theme. Simplification is exactly what is being expressed in this project, a study into Dutch-German border values. Where the Dutch and German cultures appear to be different and yet in essence still the same. With their antennae, De Oszilatorinnen can pick up radio waves from the border area. Cool German and Dutch techno, schlagers and Kraftwerk are the sounds of the overhanging culture national culture, like overhanging fruit. This is what the combination of mutual attraction and overlap produces, where the borders meet. The music culture expresses a universal language and is a simplification of these national customs that make both these countries so unique and yet so overlapping.

Sonja-Vanessa Schmitz and Viola van Alphen investigated these overhanging music cultures and present the results in the form of a video which they will present during 7 days of inspiration, about simplification in differences in overhanging cultural fruits.

This project will also be shown up till 25 March in the rock’n’pop museum in Gronau and after that during the Twente Biënnale, 12-22 May, Creatieve Fabriek, Hengelo.
