GrensMap

‘GrensMap – Where are your borders? Wo ist Ihre Grenze?’ is a mapping project located in the border area. It takes place both on site and on internet; Käthe Wenzel will be physically confronting the border posts – and she will be asking questions. She will be asking questions about border posts and border stories at the German-Dutch Europe course at the universities of Münster and Twente, in the German lessons in Warnsveld and at the water-and shipping authorities. She will visit the German-Dutch NATO corps, German-Dutch companies, supermarkets and the customs office.

On the cartoonorama.de website, cartoons and short texts will appear on an internet map of the region. Every location visited will be marked and the local “discovery’ opened via a mouse-over. On both sides of the border, facts and anecdotes will be collected and cartoons will be created “on demand” – everyone who submits an experience or a piece of information can order a cartoon in person or per e-mail for his or her location on the map.

The journey can be followed and commented on via Facebook from interview to interview and from cartoon to cartoon. The final result will be a mixed and sometimes rather controversial social-cultural map of the region. The main focus is explicitly that the artist is not the only person who determines which places and experiences should be part of the map – the map is the result of a broad collaboration between people of all ages and between all kinds of organisations from both sides of the border.
