GrensWerte coumn 1

The artist Albert Van Der Weide has been appointed guest curator for GrensWerte for 2011/2012. The theme this year is Low-hanging Fruit. Albert will write three columns, describing his experiences in organising visual arts projects in the EUREGIO. Written straight from the heart, each column will be supplemented by a drawing – to represent what he is unable to express in words.

sozialpalast Berlin - Berlijn

Musicians from the Netherlands visit musicians in Berlin on three evenings this autumn. Their meeting place is the small music room of the Sozialpalast, in Berlin’s trendy Prenzlauer Berg. This is where music is played and sung, and where people congregate to chat and drink.

During the performances, the audience sits in the media arts café (MAC) Berlijn in Enschede. Via a video live stream, the music will be projected from Berlin onto a large screen in Enschede. The musicians in Berlin can not see the audience, but they can hear it: the sounds from the hall in Enschede are transmitted back to Berlin.

Symposium – Freestyle

According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: “Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state”.

But freedom of movement is more than this. It’s not just a component of political dimensions, it also manifests itself in culture, science and education. In other words, in everyday life. But what does this freedom of movement – which we all take for granted – actually mean? How free are we to move physically and mentally?

Ninety minutes of hate

Whenever the Dutch football team plays against Germany, memories also play a role – memories of the Second World War and other military confrontations. The pitch becomes a field of honour, with every shot a bull’s eye in the heart of the opposition fans. An exaggeration you say? Not in the least. Thomas Snyder, a historian specialised in the Dutch national football team, refers to the Dutch-German football rivalry as “possibly the most hate-filled in the world”.

Show at the shoarma café

By and with Ruth Schultz and Harald Redmer
A phoenix5 Munster production

It’s about Germans and the Dutch – a topical theme that has been around for centuries. How could people forget the numerous football matches, the peanut butter, the vanilla custard, the sauerkraut and the haribo, Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus, Wilders and Sarazin, bikes everywhere. Or – a centuries-old cliché. But how do people from other cultures actually view us? The Turks for example?

GrensMap

‘GrensMap – Where are your borders? Wo ist Ihre Grenze?’ is a mapping project located in the border area. It takes place both on site and on internet; Käthe Wenzel will be physically confronting the border posts – and she will be asking questions. She will be asking questions about border posts and border stories at the German-Dutch Europe course at the universities of Münster and Twente, in the German lessons in Warnsveld and at the water-and shipping authorities. She will visit the German-Dutch NATO corps, German-Dutch companies, supermarkets and the customs office.

Arts Relay Duo 3

De Oszilatorinnen: Schlager music, video clips and techno beats in German-Dutch arts project.
What’s the best thing about the German-Dutch border? The many supermarkets, the wonderful landscapes, the day out? For many people it’s a bit more than that: it’s the hanging fruit.
